New Year, New Me...

I really haven't given time to Sequins and Bangles for the past six months. I have been the worst blogger. The truth is I have been so caught up in my new job/surroundings that I totally neglected to give any time to my blog. Anyway that is changing from today. I am MAKING time for my blog! One of my New Year Resolutions is to take some time out of my weekly schedule to writing posts again, starting from today. As for the rest of my resolutions/goals for 2012 - I am still trying to come up with them!

My New Favourite Artist- Lana Del Rey

I have been championing this girl for a while now. If you are like me you will know this girl has been on the rise since her amazing song Video Games was played at both Emilio de la Morena and Christopher Kanes S/S 12 shows at London Fashion Week. And she has just been signed by Next Model Management! This sultry songstress will blow you away with her music. Her album is dropping at the end of the month, I can't wait to get my paws on it! I pre-ordered it on Amazon ages ago!

I have been such a bad blogger lately. I have totally neglected Sequins and Bangles. I have a good excuse why though-I got a new job, my dream one actually. So the past three months have been spent settling into my new work and my new surroundings as I had to move for the job :) Anyway I am loving the new slippers trend that I am seeing so much of recently. Not exactly ideal for this horrible rain, but I am LOVING this Sam Edelman pair

Kim Sears

Like most people I am totally enthralled in Wimbledon and was so disappointed to see Andy Murray lose on Friday. Maybe for different reasons to most, I have a total girl crush on his girlfriend Kim Sears. She has that totally natural but polished look down to a tee. Her glossy hair is perfectly blowdryed for every game, her make up is light and she has that gorgeous honey hued tan that gives her that lovely outdoorsy glow. She is perfectly polished, even her outfits look carefree. I love her use of casual basics, blazers, shirts, straight jeans and ballet pumps to build her stylish Wimbledon outfits. And she can rock a pair of aviators! I love her Sloaney look. I think this is the year of the Sloaney, with the Middleton sisters rocking the look too. It might finally be the end of the Kate Moss, just rolled out of bed and haven't brushed my hair in a week look. Thank God!

Christian Louboutin Lady Daf...Topshop SUGAR...

STEAL-VS-SPLURGE

I am sure everyone is noticing these Christian Louboutin Lady Daf shoes popping up on some of the most stylish feet. They are everywhere at the minute. They are just so high but I imagine they will soon become a staple piece.

These Sugar shoes from Topshop are such a great copy, they are still high but more of a wearable height, and are £68 (I'm not sure of the euro price). Unfortunately they are sold out online and in Topshop stores. Luckily though I am selling a pair in my eBay shop, so if you are interested click on the link in the top left hand corner to be brought there. I think they will look great with dresses and shorts for summer. I love the Apricot colour.

With the ridiculous cost of petrol and diesel these days I think this is the perfect answer to how to get around these days. I am seriously thinking of investing in one. Anyone else feel the same??

What to Wear to Royal Ascot

I haven't posted in a while. I know, bad blogger! I had a query from a lovely reader about what to wear to Ascot, in particular what headpiece to wear. I love hats and headpieces. The Royal Wedding was heaven to me! Royal Ascot takes dressing for the races to a new level. There are so many rules you have to abide by, we shall call them the Laws of Dressing, because they really need to be followed! Luckily the days when wearing the wrong coloured hat, bearing your legs or even being a divorcee would cause havoc are gone.

The main rules are;

Only formal day dress with a hat or substantial fascinator will be acceptable
Bare legs are frowned upon (tights or stockings required)
Dresses or skirts must be no more than two inches above the knee
Trousers can only be worn as part of a suit
Spaghetti straps, off the shoulder dresses, halternecks or dresses with a strap less than one inch will not be tolerated.

Now my lovely readers query is what type of hat shall she wear with an almost cream dress. I would definitely take inspiration from the Royal Wedding. Our national treasure Mr Philip Treacy created these two beautiful headpieces. I imagine what Lady Kitty, below, is wearing would be considered a 'substantial fascinator'. It is also similar to how you have described your outfit. I think a neutral or nude colour would be best for your headpiece.

For those who don't have a Philip Treacy budget I recently paid a visit to Debenhams and I was pleasantly surprised by their hat selection. A lot of their hats are by the Designers at Debenhams so you can technically have a designer hat for a fraction of the cost. I personally love these Philip Treacy inspired saucer hats.

What to Wear...To The Races

This Easter weekend I was lucky enough to head to the races at Fairyhouse. It is that time of year again when all the racing festivals are on. Ladies Day has become such a big event, and Best Dressed prizes are so huge (ahem, €10,000 voucher for Arnott's anyone??)that it is really worth putting in the effort. Don't be fooled into thinking that you have to be dressed designer head to toe, if thats your style then great but i recent years, judges tend to lean towards the overall better look and if you've made your own fascinator or are wearing your Great-Grandmothers pearls then all the better.

There are certain Do's & Don'ts about racing that I really feel strongly about, mainly dont's!:) If any of you saw some of the coverage from Aintree's "Ladies" Day then you will know what I mean. The wag look is well and truly dead and should not be resurrected for Ladies Day. I was well and truly shocked by how short some dresses were this weekend, not classy or ladylike and definitely not a good look. You are on a day out, not a night out!

Feel confident enough to wear stuff from the High Street. Have fun with your outfit.
Be thrifty and make your own fascinator or hat.
Wear comfy shoes. If you are wearing heels, wear wedges, otherwise you will constantly be sinking into the grass.
Keep make up to a minimum. If you need to wear tan, keep it natural looking.
Dress for the weather, if its cold include a jacket in your outfit. If its raining bring a nice umbrella.
Accessorize well. This will make all the difference to how you look. Leave your big bag at home, bring a clutch!
Keep it simple.

Don't

Wear a short dress. You are not going to the local disco. Nothing tight and above the knee. Cocktail wear is a big no-no.
Overdo the fake tan.
Show cleavage.
Wear spaghetti strap dresses. It can be really looked down upon at some race meetings. If you are going to bear your shoulders, look for a thicker strap and bring a wrap to cover your upper arms.
Wear an evening gown. It will be constantly trodden into the grass by the crowds, and will be destroyed.
Wear sky high heels or dainty strappy sandals. You will fall out of them on the grass.
Overdo the overall look with glitz and glam.
Get hammered! You are dressed like a lady so act like one!
Dare wear hair extensions, especially cheap clip in ones. They will only take away from your overall look.
Forget your hat!

Jumpsuits or play suits have fast become a Spring/Summer staple. They first reappeared a few years back now and have been wholly embraced by us ever since. During summer I love to wear pretty dresses but the fear of a breeze blowing my lightweight dress up around my ears terrify's me. Thats why I love play suits, they often look like a dress but they are shorts and you have the comfort of knowing that you are not going to end up flashing your knickers or worse your lady-bits(unless you want them to of course!). Festival Fashion...What to Wear to a Music Festival...Part 1...

With Coachella starting yesterday and Glastonbury and Oxegen coming up in a few months its time to start planning your festival wardrobe. Now is the best time to start looking for things to wear as all the high summer wear is coming into stores at the min. With Slane on next month you can give your festival outfit a test drive! There are some things that you just always need to bring to a festival or outdoor event ie a hat and wellies! Straw trilby's are generally the hat of choice, but this year I am loving the wide brim hats we are seeing at the min (check out my previous post on wide brimmed hats here). Maybe not too wide brimmed or you will not be popular with the person standing behind you! :)
Hunter wellies are the brand of welly to be seen in, made popular by Miss Moss and gang. Some people don't agree with splashing out big bucks on a pair of wellies but I would rather pay €80+ on one good pair of wellies that will last than buying a new pair of wellies at €20 a pop for each festival and then ditching them in a field afterwards. Not my style and not very environmentally friendly. Last year I bought these Hunter Carnaby Boa and I have been looking for excuses to wear them ever since!

I could totally feel the difference and you pay for quality. The previous year I bought a cheap pair of wellies for €20 in Dunnes and my lower back hurt so much I couldn't wait to get home. I actually made excuses to hang around my tent. But with the Hunters I didn't have any back pain and I actually came back with calf muscles like rocks:) Here are some more cute wellies I picked out.

I think combat boots are a cute option too if you don't fancy wearing wellies. If you are lucky enough to be going to a festival where it is actually going to be dry and not a mud-fest, here are some really pretty flats from Topshop you could wear.

Did we all have a nice weekend?? I had such a fun/lazy one. I got to enjoy the brilliant Ireland v England rugby on Saturday. Yesterday was the purr-fect Sunday. Starting out with a yummy late french toast brekkie at a cute little restaurant and a long walk on the beach, followed by watching My Fair Lady and a trip to the cinema last night to finally see the brilliant The Kings Speech.

We all sat up and took notice of David Koma last year when the beautiful Beyonce wore one of his dresses quickly followed on XFactor by Cheryl Cole. Well, Topshop on the button as usual, are launching a collection with him. There is major confusion around the release dates. It went into stores last week, many different dates for its online release have been published. Low and behold, three pieces popped up on the website today. Prices for this collection are STEEP. There are only 30 pieces of each piece available and prices range from £100 (for a belt) - £350 (amazing backless dress). As usual the only piece I like is the £350 dress. Damn you expensive taste

I don't know if many of you know this but Kurt Geiger has opened a boutique in Dublin Airport's new Terminal, T2. This is a pic of it and doesn't it look nice! It is the first shoe boutique to open in Dublin airport and I have to say I love that it is one of my favourite footwear brands! I have to admit I am a little bit jealous of the girls who work there, it is a brand I would love to work for. Imagine getting to look at their shoes all day! So I had a little trawl through their website for you guys (not exactly a chore for me) and I picked out my fave shoes from their S/S 11 collection, which are currently online. For those job hunters lucky enough to get called to interview it can be an absolute crisis trying to find something to wear. Below is a little Polyvore that I done up of pieces and outfits that I would wear to an interview. Obviously it depends on which industry you are going into, if I was going for a business interview and I wanted to be taken seriously I would wear a suit. But if I was going for a fashion industry interview I think it is okay to let your general style and personality come across. Dress the same way as you would dress every day at work.

Sometimes it is just easier (and less stressful) to pick a dress, but there are some rules to bear in mind. Rule number 1 being, nothing above your knee. Sitting on top of your knee is fine but girls mid thigh is just not a good daytime look! Number 2, I would go for a no cleavage approach and would probably wear 3/4 length sleeves too. Really this is just to keep it professional.

When it comes to shoes DO NOT wear open toe shoes. Closed toe are the only ones you should be wearing. Do not be tempted to wear your highest heels. A simple court shoe or ankle boot will generally suffice. If you normally wear flats then wear flats! I like these floral heels though because they do add a bit of personality to your outfit (fashion jobs only!).

I think it is okay to wear a fitted denim or check shirt to an interview, if you have a beautiful peachy well fitting blazer to go over 'em. Pair em up with black skinny trousers or some skinny cargo trousers and you have a cute, professional on-trend interview look!

I thought I'd do a quick post on what the main trends for Spring/Summer 2011 are as I know not all of us have the time to be trawling through the shows or magazines trying to work them out for ourselves! :) Now even though the weather hasn't arrived yet, the new collections all have in stores

Super Brights

Bright, brights are here this season, and oh are they bright! Think of a box of Crayola crayons, and that is what your wardrobe is going to resemble this season. Layer 'em up, mix them together or just accessorise a black outfit with a super bright scarf or handbag.

The 70's

I am very excited about this trend, seeing as I've always thought I should have been around in the 70's! Their is a luxe twist coming through on the 70's trend this time round, and it is definitely quite glammy and evening, yet still laidback. Think Bianca Jagger, Halston and Studio 54. Colours are deep and vibrant, expect beautiful fabrics, boxy jackets and peasant blouses. Ruffles, tan belts and platforms are a must for this trend.

Prints

Quirky prints were all over the catwalk this season. Prints have gone crazy championed by Prada and Mary Katrantzou, and really anything goes. Garish and in your face prints rock as do more subtle prints. Of course animal prints and polka dots are still hanging around.

All White

The Winter White trend from last season has continued into a Spring/Summer white trend. It is perfect to lift the spirits. A white dress and white pants are the must have pieces within this trend. It is quite a minimalist trend, so it doesn't need to be overdone, but was seen with gold at Alexander Wang. Personally I shall be looking for a white 'Le Smoking' inspired blazer to bring it into a more office wear everyday look.

Someone whose style I've admired now for a while is Frankie Sandford of The Saturdays. Personally I think this girl can do no wrong. She rocks every outfit she wears and I don't think I've ever not liked an outfit shes worn. I'm not normally a fan of pop singers and how they dress but this girl rocks such a cool, edgy All Saints look. I love this style and its so refreshing to see girls my age not rocking the overdone Wag look of fake tan and those damn hair extensions on nights out. She looks so comfortable and like she would be so much fun to go on a night out with. I also love how most of the shoes she wears are from Office or Topshop and how she is a huge fan of the high street! Finally someone who really does shop where we shop! (",)

Kurt Geiger's sale has now gone to 75% off and there is some serious value to be had. I was just playing my usual game of filling up my shopping basket with what I would buy and pretty quickly I had 18 pairs of shoes for £900. Now this sounds a bit astronomical (don't worry readers, I don't have £900 at the mo to spend on 18 pairs of shoes and boots!) but to be fair, you would generally be lucky to leave Kurt Geiger £900 lighter with 9 pairs of shoes weighing you down. There is some good value to be had and it's definitely worth checking out! I've picked out some of my faves below!

Sale time is generally my favourite time of year, I love being able to buy things I have been drooling over all season, especially designer pieces! This season however is a bit different for me. I have not been to one sale or even purchased one thing. This was my first unemployed Christmas and it was TOUGH! I have never had so little money in my life or had to do so much scrimping and saving. I actually cannot wait to get a job, I am so looking forward to the prospect of becoming employed again this year that I have been scouring websites looking for pieces I would love to spend imagined earnings on and what would I wear to an interview if I got called! Sad, but internet browsing has replaced window shopping for me because it is just to hard to walk into a store and know you can't or shouldn't be buying anything. Anyhuuuuuuu step forward MyWardrobe.com who has a sale on of up to 70%. What I would generally do during the sales would be to hum and hah over pieces I had been eyeballing all season like these Kurt Geiger Glam Black Leather Platforms (Which I think I actually blogged about earlier this season) which are reduced from €288 to €86.40. Bargain!! I would definitely be purchasing these if I had the moolah and these bad boys which I knowed I blogged about because I am MAD aboout these Sam Edelman Torin Wedges reduced from €235.20 to €117.60 These would definitely be in my basket, I seriously have to talk myself out of sicking them on my poor overstretched credit card! During saletime I love picking up luxe items at a cheaper price, items that you will constantly use that you will have forever and that will always look good, like this beautiful belted trench from Sonia by Sonia Rykiel reduced from €633.60 to €316.80 this fabulous Tibi Belted Faux Fur Coat reduced from €987.60 to €493.20 or this gorgeous Riley Officer coat from ALICE by Temperley reduced from €528 to €264. I definitely think it is such a good time to invest in coats and accessories such as these beautiful pieces from House of Harlow 1960 which are both 50% off and are reduced to a reasonable €46.80 and €38.40 respectively.

Dreams for 2011...

So it's 2011! Which I am sure with a lot of other people I can hardly believe! 2010 was quite possibly the fastest year of my life. With all my injuries last year I am only to happy to look towards an injury free year but it frustrates me so much to feel that I have wasted a whole year. This year I can already feel will be a much better one! I love the sense of anticipation and the confidence that we can accomplish anything that we get at the start of a new year, never before have I felt this so much. I have a few things I hope to accomplish this year;

Number 1 being get a job! I really cant wait to start to work again and actually be able to afford the clothes and shoes I drool over!
Number 2 is to move out and get my own apartment in the city. Its the only place to spend your youth and after last year I really believe we should all make the most of being young because it really does fly by!
And Number 3 is to travel, to leave our beautiful shores and go on a wonderful adventure. I have always loved to travel and have wanted to go to Australia since I was a little girl but for some reason I am scared. Of what I don't know, maybe because it just feels so far away or maybe because I am less of a travel bug than I think and more of a home bird. Whichever one it is one thing I have always wanted not to be is someone with regrets, someone who wishes they had of done something or who never gets around to doing what they say.
This past year has definitely thought me that you can so easily become that person and that life really is too short and that if you don't move quick enough it will pass you by.

Action Breast Cancer

Today is the 1st of October, which to so many of us signals the start of Pink Octocer or breast cancer awareness month. I do love charity, the colour pink, Cadburys Flake and old movies. So when this hit my inbox I knew so many of you would be as excited as myself! Now unfortunately I can't put up the whole pretty flyer that they sent me because I am just not that computer savvy, but I'll try my best to recreate it for you! This is a great girly event and hopefully it will raise a lot for Action Breast Cancer. So tell as many people as you can, tell your mothers, your girlfriends, your sisters, cousins, aunties and even granny's and get them all together for this very special festival, and help the Irish Cancer Society raise much needed funds for this brilliant charity. Here is a link to Action Breast Cancer's webpage if you want to find out more about this great charity.The Cadbury Film Festival will take place in Cineworld, Parnell Street, Dublin 1. It will run from October 7th to October 10th and will screen some of the most memorable performances and lines that the silver screen has ever witnessed. There will be no fixed price for the tickets however, members of the public wishing to book seats will be asked to make a donation to the Irish Cancer Society through dedicated fundraising pages on www.mycharity.ie. What to Wear to a Festival...

Hey Guys! The countdown to Oxegen is on! Music festivals have become such a huge part of our social calendar that we all want to look amazing for! However planning outfits is an actual nightmare with our temper-mental weather, to say the least. So here is a quick edit I through together of some really cool affordable pieces for the weekend. Seperates are the way to go, dresses are so easy to just throw on which is great but if you get soaked you are feckered! It always a good idea to bring a spare outfit just in case you get drenched. Two major trends this year which I thnk need to be left at home are maxi-dresses and playsuits. Maxi dresses for the obvious reason of people stomping your beautiful dress into the mud and dragging half of the campsite around on the end of your dress, and playsuits...well we don't like to have to spend any longer than is necessary in those gross portaloos, so enough said really! Hope you all have a great weekend if you are going, and remember to pack the SPF 30+!

To the Max...

Now that summer is here it is time to whip out this seasons staple, the maxi. Generally when a trend goes as mainstream as this one, I tend to avoid it like the plague. Walk down any street these days and you will see at least 10 lovely ladies in their maxi's. I do love a pretty dress though, and lets be honest who doesn't feel like a princess wearing a long dress during the day, you definitely get the feeling of days gone by glamour. Last weekend I stepped out in two lovely maxi dresses, one to a party, and another to go out to breakfast the following morning. I am now hooked, I have never felt so unbelievably feminine in flats before! They are definitley a head turner, and who doesn't love to turn heads when you know you have just simply thrown something on!
